At ACHIM, we promote the power to act and support individual and collective development of people at risk or in a vulnerable situation. We wish to collaborate in a social transformation of living/housing environments of the Ville-Émard-Côte-St-Paul neighborhoods and all around the South-West.
Promote community life
The organizing of activities and workshops to reach individuals that are in vulnerable situations and, at the same time, contributing to sustainably boosting the achievement of social changes.
Providing community housing
We want to be able to offer community housing spaces to people at risk or living in vulnerable situations to offer them a greater power to act.
Generate interest and engagement
Our desire is to develop and organize activities that promote awareness among people at risk or living in vulnerable situations.
Mobilize partners and the collective
Our goal is to unite and to address the issues faced by people at risk or living in vulnerable situations.
Promote peoples' interests
We are committed to actively promote the needs and concerns of our community so that they are taken into account by the decision-making people.
Collect and administer finances
Our task here is to collect and administer money from grants, donations, subscriptions, etc., with the goal of achieving the Corporation's objectives.
ACHIM, founded in 1989, is in constant development thanks to the remarkable contribution of our volunteers, members, tenants and employees. Together, we have shaped a place dedicated to protection and well-being. Thank you to everyone who is directly or indirectly involved with us.
1988
Our story begins thanks to the initiative of several professionals from the health network wishing to offer a place to meetup and share for people aged 50 and over in the neighborhood. People who had nowhere to meet at the time.
4 avril 1989
ACHIM is officially born… without no official home. The CLSC on Monk Boulevard lends us a small office in the basement and the Monseigneur Pigeon Center welcomes us on Wednesdays for our first activity; le dîner d'amitié.
Janvier 1995
We quickly realize that the people's needs is not limited only to breaking isolation. It is for this reason that in January of 1995 the "Porte de l’Amitié" residence opened its doors. 28 housing units are being created on Hamilton Street. Our offices are now on site, activities are multiplying such as outings, different parties, friendship dinners and many others.
2001
After several steps, ACHIM became the owner of the Lévis school, which made it possible to build 32 new social and community housing units.
2003
Monique Lacroix, general director at the time, launched the community worker project which was inspired by the street work.
2006
The Annex is being built, 28 social and community housing units are now available.
2010
The caregivers and care recipients project was a valuable collaboration with the university. The key phrase: Happiness is not about memories but about the positive emotions felt. This project made it possible to create links between tenants and caregivers, as well as raising awareness of cognitive disorders.
2019
We celebrate ACHIM’s 30th anniversary.
2020
